Sophos Labs was able to quarantine elements of a widespread email based malware attack under the guise of a ‘secure’ message. After opening the email titled “You have a received a secure message”, you are treated to a message attempting to coerce you into opening a ZIP file named securedoc.zip. A Trojan Horse named Troj/Zbot(Zeus)-DPM awaits those unlucky enough to peer inside. This particular Trojan Horse is able to use your computer as a botnet- capable of sending out millions of pieces of information/malware to additional systems. Now is the time to be cautious and to screen your inbox carefully for items that lack any clarity- the more nebulous the message seems, the higher the chance of playing into a scheme.
